Party projects - Mask making
This mask making party works really well with all ages although it is particularly popular with the younger children and boys especially - 5, 6, 7 years old. After the initial ‘arriving’ activity, the format for this particular party is straight forward. For the first half hour, the children will be given an elasticated papier mache mask. They will then paint their mask. All paints used are non-toxic and water based. All paint will wash out of clothes but it is always advisable to wear old clothes!
Finally, during the last 15 minutes or so, the children will be provided with their plain paper party bag that they can decorate with crayons and the remaining stickers. At the end of the day the children will have a party bag filled with the items they have made during the party. |

Craftastic is an arts and crafts company providing creative experiences for all ages, run by CBeebies ‘SMarteenies’ presenter Bizi Lizi.
When they have finished painting their mask, (this takes roughly 30 minutes) the children will then go for their party food. While the children are eating, Lizi will clear away all the paints, dry the painted masks then reset the table with the decorations. The decorations consist of a variety of stickers, foam shapes, sequins and glittery shapes.
On the children’s return to the table, they will decorate the masks with the items provided. This takes approximately 25-30 minutes. Once they are happy with their finished mask, they will then be provided with a mini picture frame. They can decorate this frame with crayons stickers and lettered beads. They can spell a name on the frame for that personal touch.
