School Workshops - Containers

Craftastic is an arts and crafts company providing creative experiences for all ages, run by CBeebies ‘SMarteenies’ presenter Bizi Lizi.

Craftastic provides arts and crafts experiences within the school environment. All activities are linked to the Art National Curriculum schemes of work and can be tailored to suit the particular school requirements.

Within Unit 5B - Containers, of the Art National Curriculum Document, Craftastic provides a 4/5 week topic looking at a variety of techniques to make clay containers. We first look at a selection of different containers made from many different materials and from countries across the world.

Each child chooses two contrasting containers and makes working drawings of them highlighting what it’s made of and any textures it may have. From these drawings, the class discuss how some of the containers have been made.

For the following 3 weeks, the children will experience different techniques of making containers from clay including coil, slab and thrown pots. At the end of the three sessions they can design their own container bearing in mind the new techniques they have learnt. The following week, they will make the container they have designed using the appropriate technique.

The above description is an outline of how the workshop could be run. All workshops are subject to detailed discussion with the class and head teacher to ensure the project will work within the school curriculum.

Craftastic can provide art activities for children from nursery and foundation stage to year 6. All activities are created with the particular children in mind. Craftastic aims to provide the highest quality of creative experience with the widest range of materials.
